In 2008, Abu Dhabi Airports and Abu Dhabi Duty Free appointed DFS, part of the world’s leading luxury retailer group, LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy), as a major concessionaire within Abu Dhabi International Airport alongside several other renowned local retailers.
With the opening of Terminal 3 in 2009, Abu Dhabi Duty Free has developed a strong relationship with its concessions through ongoing training, weekly concessionaire reviews, bold marketing initiatives and customer service quality programmes.
Retail revenue in 2013 at Abu Dhabi Duty Free reached a record AED 912.7 million (US $248 million), an increase of 13% compared to 2012
Recently, Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) was awarded the prestigious Frontiers Award for ‘Best Airport Operator of the Year’ in 2012, “Best Airport for the Middle East region” from the Airports Council International (ACI). The award came as a result of the Capital’s airport score in the 2012 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) survey results – a key benchmark for customer service in the global airports’ industry.
Looking ahead, Abu Dhabi Duty Free, under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Airports, is planning significant further developments for the benefit of passengers travelling through Abu Dhabi, notably including the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB), Abu Dhabi’s future airport due to open in 2017.
The MTB will cater to the needs of over 30 million passengers a year, providing 28,000sqm of space for duty free shopping, dining, relaxation and entertainment, and is expected to grow the Abu Dhabi Duty Free business to over AED 1.5 billion each year.
